3 min read

What is 5G?

5G is generally, fifth generation cellular network technology that provides broadband access.
It follows 2G,3G and 4G and their technologies such as GSM, UMTS, LTE etc. 5G speed is can be slightly higher than 4G.
People can access internet with blazing fast speed with average download speed of around 1 GB/s.

Beyond just speed improvements, 5G is expected to unleash a massive IoT ecosystem where networks can serve communication needs for billions of connected devices, with the right trade-offs between speed, latency and cost.

When it will going to launch?

Four major phone carriers in the US such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint have plans to introduce 5G networks in 2019. AT&T has started testing and trials with 5G in some cities of US.
According to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) guidelines, 5G network speeds should have upto 20 Gb/s for the download and 10 Gb/s for upload.
The latency of 5G network could get as low as 4 ms(milliseconds) in mobile.
In Chicago, US we’ve managed to obtain speeds of up to 1.5 Gb/s which is faster than 4G. AT&T has launch 5G network in 19 cities across the states.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile is yet to launch.

In india Reliance Jio is gearing up for the 5G operations across the country. They already started to work on 5G and waiting for the spectrum allocation to them. After the spectrum allocation they will launch 5G in india by mid 2020.
